IC Federal Credit Union: Where Members Come First
From our start in the basement of a local church in 1928, to our position today as one of the largest credit unions in Massachusetts, IC Federal Credit Union puts Members first.
Our Mission is clear: To improve the well-being of our Members by providing innovative products and services while promoting Member education and community support through a team of caring, knowledgeable and empowered professionals.
A Look Back In 1928
Founded as a Member-owned, non-profit institution, we were chartered to encourage savings by offering a fair return on deposits. Deposits were then used to offer our Members low-cost loan products as well as other services.
Years of steady growth followed, and in the early 1970s we built our main office on Main Street in Fitchburg, and also opened a branch in Parkhill Plaza. Local response was overwhelming, so in 1985 we moved our main office to larger space on Bemis Road.
Our Charter: Change is Good
In 1986, we changed our charter from state to federal, allowing us to broaden our Field of Membership. We became the IC Federal Credit Union.
Our field of membership expanded to include individuals who live or work in the Massachusetts counties of Worcester, Middlesex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, and Norfolk. Also included are the spouses of individuals who have passed away while Members, credit union employees, Members of their immediate families, and organizations of such individuals.
Benefits of Change
In 1986, we expanded into Leominster, opening a branch on Mechanic Street. We opened a Westminster branch in 1992, serving the growing membership in the northern region.
Two new branches welcomed Members in 1997. The first was our Watertower branch in Leominster. The second was a branch in Ayer. Given the ongoing revitalization in Ayer at that time, it gave us the opportunity to serve our growing Memberships as seen in the Fitchburg, Leominster, and Westminster communities.
To Look Ahead, Look Here
Our Parkhill Plaza branch moved to a new location in 2006. Here, Members find state-of-the-art technology, including an Internet café, plasma TV displays with information updates, and ATM drive-thru access.
Our Westminster branch – the first of its kind in the area – features an innovative dialogue banking center with a welcoming, open-concept design. Members can relax in our Hospitality Area or read about important financial topics while watching IC news in our new Financial Center. A similar innovative dialogue banking center is also at the heart of our Worcester branch. Members are pleased to discover convenient new hours, drive-up ATM, as well as a coin-counting machine.
